A Bible Character
Luke 22:47, 57, 60; 23:21-34; Mark 15:1, 10-11, 16:1;
Matthew 21:24; I Peter 2:9 (KJV)
I’ve heard the Holy Book called the, “Living Word,”
It lives and breathes, and strains to be heard.
And I heard a Saint say, I’d like to be,
A Bible character for all to see.
No sooner said, than the chance came their way,
The Word leapt from the page to the everyday.
And all of a sudden that Word came alive,
The Holy Spirit had heard and opportunity arrived.
It’s an honor to be on the battlefield,
In the perilous days when warfare is real.
We’ll all get our chance to stand for Christ,
And prove to everyone that we’re bought with a price.
Which character will you be on that Bible stage,
If the casting is done and war is waged?
Are you Judas, who comes with kisses by night,
Or Pilate who washes the blood out of sight?
Are you in the crowd crying crucify Him,
Or Peter who denies that he is His friend?
Or the soldiers who cast lots for His garment in greed
Or the wicked leaders who arranged the deed?
Are you one of the twelve who walked with Him,
But couldn’t be found when the evening grew dim?
Were you one of the women, He delivered from sin,
But remembered that He said, “He would rise again?”
Even though they were afraid, they went to the tomb,
To give honor to their Lord and His body groom.
Will you be counted with the very few,
Who waited on the Lord as their hope grew?
And believed all He’d said would come true,
That He would return for me and you
And in the meantime, while we’re on earth,
Washed in His blood, a child of new birth.
Just check yourself out in every way,
And see which role you’ll play today.
Could they cast you for peculiar people indeed,
The Royal Priesthood and Child of His seed?
Called by His name and set aside,
The Temple of God, let His Spirit abide.
In the beauty of Holiness tried and true,
Let His Spirit be found in me and you.
