“The Last Hurdle” is the second volume in the Manifesting the Glory series, a memoir by Dr. Lydia A. Woods. It is the heart-warming story of an unlikely friendship between a white, 92-year-old retired decorated U.S. Army Lt. Colonel (Charles) and a black, former university professor and ordained minister (Lydia), 30 years his junior.

In 2009, they embarked on an adventure to make a name for themselves in the world of USATF Masters Track & Field. The strong-willed Lt. Colonel and the feisty professor/minister discovered in each other kindred competitive spirits. For seven years, they traveled across the country to compete in National Championships, breaking stereotypes and setting World Records. Charles and Lydia started as teammates, built a coach/athlete relationship, and jumped the last hurdle to become best friends.

An inspiring journey of determination, strength of will, character, and belief in self, The Last Hurdle: Manifesting the Glory tells a true-life story that dispels negative concepts about racial stereotypes and aging. It gives testimony to the fact that aging is not the end of the race–if you only believe!
